Made in a technique called Nerikomi, this piece marbles two colors of clay together, where the color is part of the object throughout and not applied to the surface or skin as a glaze. The shininess is from a clear glaze that shows off the natural clay colors.
Beginning with the circular handles outward, it felt too open and vulnerable, so I bent them inward, and the Steven Hill Clear glaze seals the handles at the base of the shallow bowl. Sometimes we have to turn inward to be our own support rather than being open and vulnerable in unsafe circumstances. There is a circular rim made from the same clay at the bottom of the dish to keep the base lifted off a counter or table.
This piece is oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe, as well as food safe.
