This sculpture is made with Amador clay, fired twice at cone10 and glazed with Tenmoku – a glossy black glaze. The piece speaks to resilience over time and trauma. Leaving a small amount of moisture in the clay risks an explosion in the kiln, but also can produce some nice effects of cracking as seen in this piece – these cracks have an aesthetic of an ancient artifact that has weathered time. It’s not falling apart, it’s holding together.
Sculpture has a 5″ x 0.25″ excavated hole up the center of the piece to accommodate insertion of a stand. Comes with a white metal stand but may fit other similar display methods.
